Horn of Africa Youth Network (HoAYN) has a child rights focus that anchors its work on the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC). HoAYN prevents girls and women from Child marriage and female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) these two are harmful practices which hold back millions of women and girls throughout their lives. We also prevents children from the worst forms of child labour and exploitation
Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) describes any procedure that intentionally alters female genital organs for non-medical reasons (Source: the World Health Organisation, WHO). It has no health benefits for girls. It can cause severe bleeding, problems urinating, and later cysts, infections, as well as complications in childbirth and increased risk of new-born deaths.
